Pitta Dosha

(Fire & Water)

Made up of fire and water. The Pitta dosha controls digestion, metabolism, and energy production. The primary function of Pitta is transformation.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF PITTA

Pittas literally have more fire in them than other types. They have good metabolism and strong bodies.

When balanced – Pitta types  sleep soundly for short periods of time, have abundant energy, and a strong appetite. They are productive and good mannered.

When imbalanced – Pittas may suffer from skin rashes, burning sensations, peptic ulcers, excessive body heat, heartburn, and indigestion.

EMOTIONAL CHARACTERISTICS OF PITTA

Pittas have a powerful intellect and a strong ability to concentrate.

When balanced – Pitta types are good decision makers, teachers, and speakers. They are precise, sharp-witted, direct, and often outspoken. They are ambitious yet practical and love both adventure and challenges.

When imbalanced – Pitta types can be short-tempered, argumentative and have frequent emotional outbursts.

When they feel overwhelmed or stressed, their response is to blame others and the ask “What did you do wrong?”

How to Balance Pitta

1. Follow the dietary guidelines in the diet (link below)

2. Try to wake before 6am and sleep before 10pm.

3. Immediately after rising have a cup of hot water with the juice of ½ lemon added.

4. Practice theI-Yoga Sun Salutation every morning and the I-Yoga Moon Salutation every evening. Initially complete 6 cycles and build yourself up to 12 cycles.

5. You need to eat breakfast before 8am. Most suitable breakfast for you is a fruit smoothie with fruits from the list. Use a variety of different combinations every day. Avoid caffeine – you may have Cooling Tea as alternatives to coffee and tea.

6. Ensure that the water used to bath or shower is lukewarm or tepid. Never use very hot water.

7. Participate in a group activity, like a team sport, team rowing, or join a book club to promote cooperation.

8. To completely relax go find a natural area where you are able to go hiking. An area close to water – sea, lake, stream or pond would be ideal. You should swim regularly for exercise.

9. The colours that we wear have an effect on our mood. Colours that help balance Pitta are blues and greens.

10. Avoid situations of excessive heat, steam, or humidity and take plenty of fluids if exposed to these. Avoid saunas, steam rooms, sunbathing hot tubs and hot yoga.
